Why Start-Ups Matter
New businesses are the engine of the U.S. economy. A recent Kauffman Foundation study found that between 1980 and 2005, start-ups (businesses less than five years old) created an average of 3 million jobs per year. These 3 million jobs accounted for nearly all net job creation in the economy during that time.
Today, given the building blocks available to start-ups, new businesses are being founded all across America, and in places you might not expect. Startups are essential to job creation, and government has a responsibility to understand the challenges new businesses face.
